I have never in my life seen so many trick or treaters. I had enough candy for 115 kids. I was out of that in no time. We had to resort to Kristen's stash of dum dum's. I turned our lights out before 8 p.m. I think our neighborhood is the current "it" neighborhood for Halloween. We had HUGE groups of kids. I was impressed by all who said thank you. And refrained from taking back candy from those that were rude enough to demand more.
I was impressed to read about a local restaurant that is doing it's part to battle hunger. The restaurant is feeding those in need on Sunday's I believe. For every meal they sell they will provide a meal. Isn't that awesome. I love the fact that they saw a need and take the time to DO something. Actions speak louder than words.
I've been a cooking fool today. I experimented with my banana bread/cake recipe. I subbed pumpkin for the banana and added lots of cinnamon. (Wonder where I got that idea KWS.) I also sprinkled chocolate chips over the top. I get that finished and then someone here who will remain nameless begs for chocolate chip cookies. You have to realize what a gift it was when I made them. #1 I HATE to make cookies. They are too labor intensive. All that up and down with the batches. I prefer mixing and baking and done. #2 I have a bit of a problem with chocolate chip cookies. If I eat even one. I will eat them until I am sick. Seriously. You can ask any one in my family. I beg them to hide the cookies. Otherwise it's one here, one there, until they are all gone. I start thinking if I just eat them then they will no longer "talk" to me.
Hey while I'm thinking of it did you know that cinnamon is good for your heart? It has anti-clotting agents, anti-microbial activity, helps in blood sugar control, and it's scent helps boost brain function. Also, cinnamon is an excellent source of the trace mineral manganese and a very good source of dietary fiber, iron and calcium. I tend to sprinkle it on my coffee. I just love the smell and taste.
Finally, Happy Birthday Janice! It wasn't that long ago that we were Kristen's age and were terrorizing Manhattan. On our own we were fine but together...watch out world!
