Eleven days left! Santa is probably doing his final checks on the naughty and nice list. Much success on the candy making. I found an awesome chocolate candy recipe. I tried it out on some friends and the wonderful leaders for our K-life groups. The chocolates got 2 thumbs up. The very best reaction was a kid who didn't know I was watching. He took a bite and did a dramatic head toss back, knee buckle. When asked if he liked it, his response was 'oh my gosh'. I will be making more.
Back to Christmas memories. The funniest hiding place my Mom and Dad ever used was under the couch. First Dad used it for hiding a mirror from Mom back in Christmas of '77. I was laying on the floor reading and my foot slipped under the couch and connected with something. After looking, there was the mirror that Mom had been wanting for our new house. I can't remember if I gave away the surprise early or if Dad was there and told me to keep it on the down low. I'm sure he drove a hard bargain at Baker's when he bought it. Years later my mom used the same hiding place. Once again I was reading on the floor and slipped my foot under the couch. There was a big wrapped present with my name on it. It was New Years! Mom had completely forgotten that she had gotten the picture for me. Even funnier it was something that I said I had to have that year. I hadn't even missed it!
That leads me to how we can be about presents when we are young. Have you ever heard; 'I don't care if I get anything else, I really want ..." Kristen used that on my just the other day. I had to laugh. It was like an echo of something I remember saying myself.
Stay tuned for tomorrow...Santa surprises!
