BlackBirds
When I left the hospital yesterday I was greeted with a symphony of Black Birds. It was a little after dusk and they had come to rest in every tree outside the hospital entrance and in front of the parking garage. There had to be hundreds of them. The sound of them was both eerie and oddly appealing. I made sure to hustle on my way when I was out in the open. I certainly didn't want any little gifts dropped on my head. I wonder what made them choose to stop where they were. They looked great in the backdrop of the green leaves. I tried to take a picture with my iPhone but it didn't do the scene justice. I was parked at the edge of the parking garage next to one of the trees. It didn't scare them a bit when I approached and unlocked my car door. I thought surely the beep of unlocking would make them scatter. I did a little research and all I can see is that this "swarming" is part of their migration. Some even mentioned that it was a sign that spring is on it's way. I also read that they can cause a lot of damage to trees and crops. It really was a striking sight to behold. And hear.
