Love to Read
I don't know when I started to keep track of the books I've read but it is interesting to look back through them. I consider myself an EEO reader. Maybe the better term is EGR, Every Genre Reader. That may not technically be correct. I know I've missed some genre the past few months. In fact, I don't see any poetry books because I haven't finished any yet. I don't list them until I finished them. Also, I do ready my Bible almost every day. When I sleep in I tend to miss my reading time. I like to start my day with my Bible reading. That way it is the first thing to influence my day. I get up make my coffee and then sit down with my Bible. My problem when I sleep in is that there are often others awake. They disrupt my routine! How dare they! I find reading one of my greatest escapes. I get annoyed with books that don't grab me in the first few chapters. I have had books that I have put to the side because I just could not get into them. (i.e., Moo by Jane Smiley) Some of them I pick back up again later and find that I had to be in the right frame of mind to get into it. (i.e., I didn't like Jane Austin at first but when I read another one of her books I started to get into it.) Reading has been my escape every since I was little. I had the opportunity when I was younger to participate in a "mail a book" program. I believe it was sponsored by the state of Kansas to get books in the hands of country kids. I would mark what books I wanted to read on their list and they would mail them to me for free. When I was done I'd send them back and get more. That was such a lifesaver to me as a kid. Being the youngest, by years, I had a lot of time to entertain myself. It wouldn't be unheard of for me to read a book a day. (I still do that. If I get caught up in a book I will stay up ALL night to read it!) I also tend to get caught up with a series by one author. When I do this I get all the books I can find by that author and plow through them. Reading has given me a wild imagination. I prefer to read a book rather than watch a movie about it. The movies never live up to my image of the book. It's always made me a little sad that my kids didn't enjoy reading as much as I do. TV and video games have stolen a lot of the time kids have for books.
