Bits and Pieces

Did you know that January 18, 2010 is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year? I guess someone figured this by taking into count the anti-depressants purchased last October, Christmas bills arrive, and failure to keep resolutions. Weird? And if you are really depressed do you care?

I've been researching the Alton Brown diet today. He lost 50 lbs by basically making 4 lists. His lists are foods that you should eat daily, 3x a week, 1x a week, and foods you should avoid. I guess one of his big diet secrets were sardine and avocado sandwiches. Yuck! I love avocados but sardines. I don't think I could handle that.

I've been reading a book called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. I scoffed at the title at first, but am really getting into some of her ideas. She has a blog that I haven't looked at yet. I want to finish the book first.

Devin and I have been making some changes in our eating habits to lose some weight. I need to go on the record acknowledging how unfair it is to be a girl. He has managed to drop 10 lbs and I haven't moved at all. Sigh! I know, his muscle mass is like ten times mine.

Speaking of dieting, I will no longer refer to it as dieting. It's just such an ugly word. My best trick is to chart my progress and paste it on the mirror. Visual reminders keep me motivated.

If my cats had their way I would sit in one place all day and they would curl up beside me. It's just so tiring for them to follow me up and down the stairs as I clean up or fold laundry.

Okay, we have lived here for 7 years. Out of that 7, Devin has had an office at corporate at least 4 of those years. Yesterday for the first time, I got to see where he worked. Some of you may think that is so strange. He goes off for at least 60 hours a week to this world I know little about. It was really cool to tour the office and get a mental picture. Now when he talks about things I have a clue what he means.
